The golf course is built on rather flat land with rocky hills, bunkers, water and trees which makes the course demanding and interesting. Akranes golf course, which is one of the two 18-hole golf course in the western part of the country, is renowned for its beautiful and interesting surroundings, good upkeep and excellent putting greens. The golf course is considered one of the better tournament golf course in the country.

The club and golf course:
The club was founded in 1965. In the beginning the club got some small piece of land from the town council at the eastern part of the town near by the towns forest service. Year later after the club was founded, the club got some more land and could build 6 hole golf course and the course was given the name Gardar. In 1969 the club got more land and a new 9 hole golf course was build that year. In 1996 the club started to work on the extension of the golf course and a new 18 hole golf course was inaugurated in the year 2000.
Green fees 2024 are as follows:
Weekdays 08:00 AM to 1 PM : ISK 5,800
Weekends and weekdays after 1 PM : ISK 10,200
Green fees include full use of the clubhouse facilities such as locker rooms and restaurants. Price for accessories:

Trolly: ISK 1.000
Golf clubs ISK 4.000
All major credit cards are accepted.
